Ingredients
- 1 gallon Rochester Cider Mill apple cider unfiltered
- 4 sticks cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cloves
- 1 tablespoon whole allspice
- 2 pods star anise
- 1 orange, medium thinly sliced
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into your slow cooker or a large pot on the stove and add the cinnamon sticks.
- Place the cloves, allspice, and star anise into a small piece of cheesecloth or a tea infuser for easy removal later. Add the bundle to the cider. Add half of the orange slices to the cider and save the remainder for garnish.
- Heat the cider until it just starts to barely boil, then lower the temperature to simmering for another 15 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Optional adult upgrade: If adding alcohol, stir it in during the last 30 minutes of cooking to preserve the flavor or add to the completed cider as desired.
- Remove the spices and oranges from the pot. Ladle the hot cider into mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks, orange slices, or star anise. Serve warm and enjoy!
